Captain Jerry Mugerditchian Biography

CAPTAIN JERRY MUGERDITCHIAN,
VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION
AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION, INTERNATIONAL

Captain Jerry Mugerditchian, a United Airlines pilot from Chicago, is the vice president of administration and secretary of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA).

As vice president of administration and secretary, Captain Mugerditchian is one of the four national officers of the association. Among other duties, the vice president of administration and secretary is the officer most responsible for keeping membership records and conducting voting and election procedures. He assumed his office on January 1, 1991, and was elected to his third consecutive four-year term in October 1998.

In addition to his duties as vice president of administration and secretary of the association, Mugerditchian is a member of ALPA's Executive Council, which is composed of the four national officers and nine executive vice presidents. He had previously served as executive vice president for two years. The Executive Council is the third highest governing body of the association.

An active ALPA volunteer, Captain Mugerditchian has served the ALPA pilots in many capacities. At his former airline he was a member of both the Negotiating and Merger Committees, chairman and captain representative of the Midway pilots based in Chicago, and chairman of the Master Executive Council, the highest elective office of the pilot group. In that capacity, he served with the chairmen of the other pilot groups on the Executive Board, the second-highest governing body. On the national level, in addition to his position of executive vice president, he has served on ALPA's Fiscal Planning Committee.

Captain Mugerditchian is a Chicago-based B-737 captain for United Airlines. Prior to joining United, he was a Midway pilot for 11 years and a TWA pilot for 16 years. He served in the U.S. Army for seven years. In 1962 he graduated from Ripon College with a B.A. degree.

A 22-year resident of Wadsworth, Illinois, he is a native of Waukegan, Illinois. He is married to the former Cheryl Waters, and they have three children, Jennifer, 27; Mark, 25, also a United pilot; and Mike, 18.

ALPA is the largest labor union and professional organization of airline pilots in the world. It is affiliated with the AFL-CIO and holds bargaining rights for more than 50,000 airline pilots at 50 carriers in the U.S. and Canada. In its professional role, ALPA is the industry's leading air safety advocate.
