Meeting in Miami October 16-20, representatives from 48 U.S. and Canadian carriers will gather to focus on the future of the Air Line Pilots Association, International by discussing issues that will set the course of the Association well beyond the next two years.

The meeting theme focuses on "The Pilots Union—70 Years of Pilots Serving Pilots." Next year, ALPA will mark the 70th anniversary of Capt. Dave Behncke's July 27, 1931, secret meeting with a small group of pilots who, approving affiliation with the American Federation of Labor, launched the Air Line Pilots Association and the motto "Schedule with Safety." ALPA plans to celebrate its anniversary well beyond this Board of Directors meeting. (Learn more about ALPA's accomplishments.)

A video filled with testimonials from government and industry representatives-including U.S. President Bill Clinton- illustrates why ALPA is the most formidable and well-respected pilots union in the world and by far the strongest advocate for the piloting profession. ALPA's National Officers spoke of the union's history and the responsibility each representative carries to build a legacy for future generations of professional airline pilots.
