Meeting in Miami October 16-20, representatives from 48 U.S. and Canadian carriers
will gather to focus on the future of the Air Line Pilots Association, International by discussing
issues that will set the course of the Association well beyond the next two years.
The meeting theme focuses on "The Pilots Union70 Years of Pilots
Serving Pilots." Next year, ALPA will mark the 70th anniversary of Capt. Dave
Behncke's July 27, 1931, secret meeting with a small group of pilots who, approving affiliation
with the American Federation of Labor, launched the Air Line Pilots Association and the motto
"Schedule with Safety." ALPA plans to celebrate its anniversary well beyond this
Board of Directors meeting.

A video filled with testimonials from government and industry representatives-including U.S. President Bill Clinton-
illustrates why ALPA is the most formidable and well-respected pilots union in the world and by far the
strongest advocate for the piloting profession. ALPA's National Officers spoke of the
union's history and the responsibility each representative carries to build a

The first ever Dave Behnke Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Robert Kehs from Northwest.
Several delegate committee chairman gave their reports to the Board which passed unopposed. Dr. Donald E. Hudson
concluded the afternoon session with his Aeromedical Report.
Nine Executive Vice Presidents were elected on Wednesday to take office January 1, 2001.
On Thursday the Board voted to move forward with the IACP merger. The delegation spent the majority of the day debating various agenda items.
