ALPA Promotes Jonathan Cohen to Director of Legal Department
WASHINGTON, D.C.---The Air Line Pilots Association has promoted Jonathan Cohen from assistant director to director of its legal department. He replaces Gary Green, who retired effective Nov. 1.
Cohen joined ALPA in 1985 after practicing with Vedder, Price, Kaufman, Kammholz, & Day, where he specialized in labor and employment law. He was promoted to senior attorney in 1987, and assistant director in 1994.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Cohen received a B.A. in 1973 from Brandeis University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. While attending law school at Georgetown University, he served on the executive editorial board of the American Criminal Law Review. Following his J.D. from Georgetown in 1976 he received a Master of Laws degree from George Washington University in 1979.
Cohen lives in Potomac, Md., with his wife, Rita, their two teenage daughters and 11-year-old son.
Gary Green served as the department's director for 27 years. In that time the department grew from one attorney in Washington, D.C. to a staff of 17 located in Washington and nearby Herndon, Va. The legal department's attorneys represent ALPA in court litigation and administrative proceedings, and provide legal advice to ALPA officials.
ALPA, chartered in 1931 by the AFL-CIO, represents 43,000 airline pilots at 38 air carriers.
