Captain Gene Johnson, retired US Airways pilot and
former Central Air Safety Chairman for Piedmont, passed away on December 10, 1998 in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Captain Johnson was the cornerstone of safety at Piedmont Airlines
prior to the merger. After the merger he continued his work to improve safety not only at
our airline, but also throughout the industry. During the time of the merger, Captain
Johnson was a leader in ensuring unity and demonstrated that safety had to be a
non-political issue.
With Genes passing, we lost a true leader and good friend.
