Daily Scheduling

How lines are constructed and the pilot monthly bidding timetable are two significant changes of the new scheduling system. Using the bidding process for June 1999 as an example, the system will operate on a timetable similar to the one below. With the implementation of Recurrent Training Bidding System (RTBS) this schedule will occur approximately three to five days earlier than indicated below.

Line hour average

  • The number of primary bid lines are determined by the Permanent Bid (Contract Section 24).

  • In the event that total position pay time divided by 85 hours is less than the primary lines specified on the Permanent Bid, all primary Lineholders will be paid and credited (credited at the beginning of the pay month) with the difference between their line value and 80 hours.

Primary line construction

  • Domestic — Primary bid lines will be constructed with no less than 70 pay hours (80 for MetroJet) and no greater than 85 pay hours (90 for MetroJet).

  • Transoceanic International — (Any mix of pure transoceanic trip pairings, for example, four Rome trip pairings in the same line as one Madrid trip pairing.) Primary bid lines will be constructed with no less than 70 pay hours and no greater than 89 pay hours.

  • Lines will be constructed jointly by the ALPA Line Building Committee and Crew Planning using computer automation.

Secondary line construction

  • After SAP closure, Secondary lines will be constructed with values no less than 70 hours (80 for MetroJet) and no greater than 85 hours (90 for MetroJet) for domestic or 89 hours for transoceanic international.

  • Of the total pay hours in position, five (5) percent or greater (but in no case less than 40 hours) will be required to remain in open time following both primary and secondary line construction

  • After the construction of Secondary lines, the Company’s Crew Planning Department will create Reserve Holding Open Time (RHOT) lines for Reserve pilots.

  • RHOT trips will remain available on the Lineholders’ A/I list for bidding two days prior to trip departure.

Regular Reserve days off
  • Reserve days off will be placed into Reserve lines prior to and contiguously with Reserve Open Time (trips immediately follow days off as shown).

  • Regular Reserve Lines with Reserve Open Time and/or Regular Duty days will be constructed with 11 days off per month (12 days for MetroJet) and carry a guarantee of 72 hours (75 for MetroJet).

  • For the first time at US Airways, Reserve staffing will be based on open time. This will help stabilize Reserve days off by better matching Reserve duty days with known open trips.

  • Regular Reserves are not required to be in base and have a minimum of nine hours to report for duty.

Reserve "S" days (Short Call)
  • A percentage of Reserve lines within a bid position will be specified by the Company as Short Call Lines.

  • Reserve "S" days will be scheduled in such a manner so as to run contiguously with other "S" days and days off (as shown).

  • "S" days cannot be mixed into Regular lines.

  • Pilots on "S" Short Call days must be within 90-minutes normal driving time to the airport parking lot.

  • "S" lines will pay a 76-hour guarantee (78 for MetroJet) and be scheduled with 11 days off (12 days off for MetroJet).
